Our Mission
Where tradition meets warmth
Downtown Jewish Center Chabad has been serving the Fort Lauderdale community since 2000. What began as a small gathering has grown into a dynamic, flourishing center of Jewish life in the heart of downtown.
Founded by Rabbi Schneur and Devorah Kaplan as emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, our philosophy is rooted in the teachings of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson. We believe that every Jew carries a divine spark, and our mission is to help that spark shine brighter.
Our unique approach—unconditional acceptance of every Jew regardless of affiliation or background—has created a community where children, adults, singles, couples, young and old all feel at home.

Emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe
Rabbi Schneur and Devorah Kaplan founded the Downtown Jewish Center Chabad in 2003 as emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
Rabbi Kaplan brings warmth, wisdom, and deep Torah knowledge to our community. His engaging teaching style makes Jewish learning accessible and meaningful for everyone.
Rebbetzin Kaplan's warmth and creativity infuse every aspect of our community. She directs our Hebrew School, leads women's programs, and brings Jewish joy to all our celebrations.
Together, they have built a flourishing community where every person is welcomed with unconditional love and acceptance.

Seeds of Community
Downtown Jewish Center Chabad begins serving the Fort Lauderdale community with a vision of unconditional welcome.
2003
Official Founding
Rabbi Schneur and Devorah Kaplan officially establish DJCC as emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
2008
Preschool Opens
Our Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool opens, nurturing young Jewish minds in their formative years.
2015
Hebrew School Expands
Expanded Hebrew School programs reach more children with engaging Jewish education.

20 Years of Growth
